Florence Alabama 1942

My mom sent me this 1942 photo of Florence via email today. I had had never heard of the Majestic Theatre so I did a little research. This is from the Cinema Treasures website:

"The Majestic Theatre opened on Saturday, August 30, 1919. It was located at 204 North Court Street next to the new First National Bank building. From the advertisements, it was not clear what was shown on opening day, but the primary advertisements announced a "Paramount Artcraft Special", a motion picture style show with living models and moving pictures called "That Well Dressed Look" for September 1 and 2. The theatre seated 400 people.

The last night of operation for the Majectic Theatre was June 9, 1951. "

When I sent that info to my mom she replied:
"I remember going there as a child, but it had
gotten pretty bad and we weren't allowed to go there. The Shoals theatre
had opened in 1951 and it was really plush for its time."

On a side note there the Shoals Theatre was recently purchased and the new owners are in the process of restoring it.

about the restoration they are doing on it.

Update:
According to this interesting site the 1942 ph
oto was captured by Arthur Rothstein.

Update #2:
The name of the photo is "Saturday in Florence".

Update #3:

Below is what the same corner (
